Founded in 2015 by Goran Subotic, the Mystic Dark Room stands as a continuation of his renowned legacy - a space born from a desire to preserve dance as a living, evolving art form. What began as an experiment in movement and storytelling has become one of New England’s most distinctive institutions of performance, blending classical precision with contemporary freedom.

Under the visionary leadership of Goran Subotic and Artistic Director Aleksander Subotic, Mystic Dark Room embodies over two decades of artistic excellence. Together, they have cultivated an environment where every performance transcends the stage - an experience that connects audiences to the emotional pulse of art.

Goran Subotic

Founder · CEO · Choreographer

Founder of Mystic Ballet in 1997 and the creative force behind Mystic Dark Room, Goran Subotic has devoted more than two decades to preserving performance as fine art - marrying classical discipline with contemporary freedom.

• Invited Kirov prima ballerina Alla Osipenko to Mystic Ballet Academy (1999).
• Created Wind in Your Hair for Misty Copeland at Foxwoods (2003).
• Produced & staged the Nutcracker Spectacular at MGM Grand Theater (2013).
• Conceived MDR works including NOTTObe, GRAB, FLESH! and the Holiday Spectacular.
• Works presented across the USA, Europe, Asia, and Central America.

Aleksander Subotic

Artistic Director & Master Teacher

Trained under Goran, Aleksander leads MDR’s creative evolution with a blend of innovation and tradition - a versatile performer, choreographer, and educator shaping the company’s contemporary voice.

• Artistic Director since 2021; internationally acclaimed stage presence.
• Master’s in Performing Arts; technical credentials in Stage Lighting Engineering, Design & Sound.
• Background in Electrical Engineering; directs digital presence for MB Creative & MDR.
• Performed and taught across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and South America.
