The Daily Routine of MDR Dance Company Artists
Routine Shaped for performing artists:
- The daily life of MDR Dance Company artists is comparable to that of high-level professional athletes, but a performing artist trains for meaning - using the body not only as power, but as voice. Dancers are required to maintain strong physical conditioning, mental clarity, and emotional presence, as the work is both demanding and immersive. Each day is structured around training, rehearsal, creative research, and performance preparation, with warm-ups and recovery integrated into the rhythm of the work.

Whether in rehearsal, creation, or live show, an artist is expected to bring full presence, integrity, and commitment - every day, in every detail, and in every interaction. The practice and performances are continuous, shaped not only for personal artistic growth and MDR Dance Company presence, but also for our combined contribution to the Performing Arts and to a deeper understanding of the social importance of the Art.
HOW IS MDR COMPANY SELECTED?
SEASON STARTS JUNE 15TH 2026 – APRIL 12TH 2027 | SCHEDULED 56 PERFORMANCES
Artists who perform with the MDR Dance Company are selected through a highly focused and intentional process rooted in the MDR structure. The process starts with an introduction to the MDR artistic language, its technique, and its style.
The MDR members enter the company by auditioning for the MDR Apprenticeship position.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong technical foundation, artistic maturity, and the capacity to work within a demanding rehearsal and performance environment. Beyond technical skill, dancers are evaluated for mental and emotional presence, adaptability, and their ability to sustain clarity and intention across every step and every interaction.
Auditions are held regularly, with applicants coming from across the United States and the world. During the audition process, artists are assessed on movement quality, musicality, physique, and a broad range of stage, artistic, and physical skills.
